Onglyza 5 mg Tablet is an antidiabetic medicine used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adult patients. Patients are advised to follow a strict diet and exercise regimen along with this medicine for the best possible effect. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.
Onglyza 5Mg Tablet is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor. It is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is a type of antidiabetic medication used in case proper diet and exercise alone is not sufficient to control and curb diabetes. Onglyza 5Mg Tablet works by stimulating increase in the insulin secretion and decrease in sugar produced by your body.
If you have type 1 dibetes, have diabetic ketoacidiosis (high levels of blood ketone), or if you are allergic to Onglyza 5Mg Tablet or any ingredient in it then you should refrain from using it. You should consult you doctor first, before using Onglyza 5Mg Tablet if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, breastfeeding, have history of pancreatitis or angioedema, or if you are taking any medicines, supplements or herbal preparations.
Onglyza 5Mg Tablet does not have any severe side effects. However, you may expeience sore throat, runny nose, upper stomach pain or back pain, sweling in ankles, feet or hands, or painful urination. If these effects continue for a prolonged period then you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
Onglyza 5Mg Tablet comes in the form of 2.5mg or 5mg tablets to be taken orally. You should not crush the tablets and should take one tablet on a regular basis and should continue the dosage as prescribed by the doctor.
Saxagliptin belongs to the class of drugs called anti-diabetic agents. This drug acts by inhibiting certain enzymes, which results in a decrease in incretin hormone levels. It also acts by inhibiting the glucagon production and stimulating insulin release from pancreatic cells. Thus, it helps in lowering the blood glucose levels.
Caution should be exercised in patients with history of HIV/AIDS, kidney disease, who are taking other medications, any allergy, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Monitor blood sugar level regularly while taking this medication.

Avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to Saxagliptin or similar drugs.
Avoid consumption of alcohol as it may alter the absorption of Saxagliptin.
Be cautious while taking Saxagliptin if you have any kidney or liver impairment.
Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if Saxagliptin causes dizziness or blurred vision.
Do not stop taking this medication abruptly unless instructed by the doctor. Stopping the medication suddenly may cause the illness to return. Do not exceed the dose more than prescribed.
You are advised not to take Saxagliptin if it has passed the expiry date of the medicine printed on the pack.

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.
Saxagliptin is used to treat high blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. This drug should be used in conjunction with proper diet and regular exercise for effective glycaemic control.
Store it at room temperature (20°-25°C) and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.
