Diabetrol SR Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Glibenclamide and Metformin. Glibenclamide is a sulfonylurea which works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Metformin is a biguanide which works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.
Diabetrol SR Tablet is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Insulin, a hormone produced by the body metabolizes sugar in the blood. When the body does not produce insulin in the required amounts, the blood sugar level in the body increases. This results in diabetes.
A diabetic patient has to maintain his blood sugar levels by following a healthy lifestyle like avoiding sugar in food. Diabetrol SR Tablet activates the pancreas to secrete more insulin. This medication is taken alongside a healthy diet. More insulin helps to reduce the level of sugar in the blood.
