Suminat 25mg Tablet is used to reduce the symptoms of a migraine and cluster headaches. It inhibits the substances that cause headaches and sensitivity to sound and light. It does not help in the prevention and reduction of frequent attacks of headaches.
Migraine headaches are thought to result from the dilatation of blood vessels in the head. Suminat 25mg Tablet works by constricting (narrowing) these blood vessels, thereby relieving the migraine headaches.
Suminat 25Mg Tablet is a synthetic medication belonging to the the triptan class of drugs. It is used for treating cluster headaches and migraine. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain which relieves headaches.
Do not have this medicine if you are allergic to it, if you have a history of heart problems, a blood vessel disease, high blood pressure or liver problems. Ask your doctor this medicine is safe for you if you have a history of kidney problems, seizures, breathing problems high cholesterol, diabetes or obesity. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and if you are taking other medications.
Its possible side effects are anxiety, flushing, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, pain, neck stiffness, redness, swelling, bruising or bleeding at the injection site, stomach upset, tiredness, vomiting, throat or sinus discomfort and weakness.
Suminat 25Mg Tablet is available in the form of a tablet and is most effective when taken early after the start of a headache. Although, injected Suminat 25Mg Tablet is more effective than other formulations.
The dosage of Sumatriptan prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.
Sumatriptan should be used only during a migraine attack. It should not be used routinely.
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Sumatriptan, seek medical attention immediately.
Take Suminat 25mg Tablet exactly as instructed by the doctor. Do not take larger amounts than prescribed. Seek emergency medical treatment in case of any severe side effects. Ensure that the course of treatment is completed. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor.
It may be noted that drugs other than those listed above may also interact with Sumatriptan.
Usually drug interactions occur when it is taken with another drug or with food. Before you take a medication for a particular ailment, you should inform the health expert about intake of any other medications including non-prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines that may increase the effect of Sumatriptan, and dietary supplements like vitamins, minerals and herbal, so that the doctor can warn you of any possible drug interactions.
Sumatriptan can interact with antidepressants.
Do let your doctor know if you smoke, consume alcohol or caffeinated drinks, or use illegal drugs as these may interfere with the action of your medication. Make sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions you may have, or any family history of medical problems. Do not start or stop using any medicine without consulting your doctor.
Like other medicines, Sumatriptan can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Sumatriptan are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.
It is pertinent to note that side effects of Sumatriptan cannot be anticipated. If any side effects of Sumatriptan develop or change in intensity, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible.

High cholesterol - This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of high cholesterol levels due to the increased risk of cardiovascular side effects.
Liver diseases - This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of liver diseases. Appropriate dose adjustments should be made based on the clinical condition of the patient to avoid serious side effects.
Seizure disorder - This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of seizure disorder due to the increased risk of worsening of the seizures.
Wolff-Parkinson- White Syndrome - This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or arrhythmias due to the increased risk of life-threatening disturbances of the cardiac rhythm.
To relieve migraine as soon as possible, take Suminat as soon as the headache begins.
Lying down in a quiet and dark room for a while after you use Suminat may help to relieve the migraine.
Take Suminat only as prescribed by the doctor. Using too much Suminat may increase the chances of side effects.
Notify your doctor if your migraine headaches are occurring more often, than before you started using Suminat.
Notify your doctor if you have used Suminat for at least three consecutive months.
Avoid driving after taking as it may cause drowsiness and dizziness.
Avoid consuming alcohol when taking Suminat, it can cause new and worse headaches.
