Nizral cream (Ketoconazole 2% cream) is a anti-fungal cream used topically (on the skin) to treat various fungal infections in several parts of the body including ringworm, athlete's foot, canadida infection (cutaneous candidiasis), tinea cersicolor which is also known as sun fungus, and seborrheic dermatitis. Nizoral Cream (Nizral) manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, is available in a strength of 2% and packed in a 15 grams tube.
Nizral Cream is an antifungal medication. It kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane. This treats your infection.
Nizral cream in prescribed to treats several kinds of fungal infections in the body. It is typically recommended for seborrheic dermatitis, athlete’s foot, sun fungus, and candida infections. It is also available as Nizoral cream.
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.
Nizral cream is an antifungal and is a member of imidazole derivatives. It contains Ketoconazole as an active ingredient. It blocks a key component of the fungal cell wall called ergosterol. This results in the accumulation of sterol precursors and depletion of ergosterol, rendering the cell wall unstable. The fungal cell leaks thereby killing the organism.
Nizral Cream should be taken following all the instructions that are given by your doctor. To ensure complete recovery and no relapse, the full course of treatment should be followed. It is more effective if taken at the same time on all days. Any instance of side effect should be reported to the doctor immediately.
Certain medicines and salt interactions may influence the effectiveness of Nizral cream when taken together. Generally, Nizral cream interacts with some medicines and salts like Abiraterone acetate, Alcohol, Alfentanil, and Aliskiren. Also, avoid concurrent use with Clopidogrel.
Ketoconazole Cream 2% (Nizoral Cream) contains sodium sulfite anhydrous, a sulfite which may cause allergic-type reactions including anaphylactic symptoms and life-threatening or less severe asthmatic episodes in certain susceptible people. The overall occurrence of sulfite sensitivity in the general population is unknown and probably low. Sulfite sensitivity is seen more commonly in asthmatic than in nonasthmatic people.
Before using Nizral Cream, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.). Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side-effects of the drug. Take as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert.
