Rifagut 550mg Tablet is an effective medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the intestine. It is used for the treatment of traveler's diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea caused due to certain specific strains of bacteria.
Rifagut 550mg Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by killing the ammonia-producing bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract which reduces recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy.
Rifagut 550mg Tablet is used for Bacterial infections of intestine, Liver failure, Liver damage, Bacterial infection of intestines, Liver dysfunction and other conditions. Rifagut 550mg Tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Rifagut 550mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Rifaximin acts by inhibiting RNA synthesis in susceptible bacteria by binding to the beta-subunit of bacterial deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-dependent ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase enzyme. This results in the blockage of the translocation step that normally follows the formation of the first phosphodiester bond, which occurs in the transcription process.

Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea - The use of this medicine can cause clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea by killing the gut friendly microorganisms. This results in the production of toxins in the gut which may lead to further diarrhea or a severe colitis.
