Mesacol 800mg Tablet is an anti-inflammatory drug used in the treatment of ulcerative colitis, a condition characterized by swelling and scarring of the colon and rectum. It is also used to control the symptoms of ulcerative colitis such as stomach pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding.
Mesacol 800mg Tablet is an aminosalicylate. It works by suppressing the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause inflammation (swelling) in the intestines. This reduces ulceration, bleeding and painful symptoms, and prevents future flare-ups of the disease.
Mesacol 800mg contains Mesalamine as an active ingredient which is used in the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease and available at all the leading pharmacy, drugstores, and medical supply stores and given by doctor’s prescription only.
You should take your Mesacol 800mg swallowed whole with a glass of water and before a meal once or twice daily. The dose you take depends on your condition, what you are being treated for and your doctor’s recommendations. You should continue take your Mesacol 800mg for as long as your doctor recommends.
Although the mechanism of action of mesalazine is not fully understood, it appears to be topical rather than systemic. Mucosal production of arachidonic acid metabolites, both through the cyclooxygenase pathways, i.e., prostanoids, and through the lipoxygenase pathways, i.e., leukotrienes and hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids, is increased in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease, and it is possible that mesalazine diminishes inflammation by blocking cyclooxygenase and inhibiting prostaglandin production in the colon.
