Osteofos Tablet is used for Treament and prevention of osteoporosis, Glucocorticoid -induced osteoporosis, Bone rebuilding, Corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis, Treatment to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis, Paget's disease and other conditions. Osteofos Tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Osteofos Tablet contains Alendronic Acid as an active ingredient.
Osteofos Tablet works by inhibiting osteoclast activity.

Alendronate is a bisphosphonate. It specifically inhibits or stops the activity of osteoclasts, the bone-resorbing cells. It works by slowing down the bone loss.
Bisphosphonates are synthetic analogues of pyrophosphate that bind to the hydroxyapatite found in bone.
Osteofos 35 mg Tablet is used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is also used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in men and women who are on corticosteroid therapy. This medicine can also be used to treat Paget's disease of bone, a condition in which the bones are weak, thin, deformed, and easily fractured.
The dosage of oral tablet, oral solution and effervescent tablet of Alendronate depends on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Take Alendronate as prescribed by your doctor.
Take this tablet once a day, after getting up for the day and before taking your first food, beverage, or any other medicine. Do not chew or break the tablets.
Take the medicine with a full glass of water. Stay in upright condition (sitting, standing or walking) for at least half an hour.
Please do not lie down after taking the medicine until you take your first meal of the day.
Alendronate works best when taken in empty stomach.
Do not take the medicine before going to bed as it may cause a lot of side effects.
Do not discontinue Alendronate without consulting a doctor.
Use the medicine at the same time of the day every day.
If you miss a dose of Alendronate, please take it immediately once you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

you are allergic to Alendronate.
you are taking any other drugs, OTC medications, herbal products or nutritional supplements.
you have certain oesophagus (pain while eating or drinking) problems (narrowing, blockage).
you are not able to sit or stand upright for at least 30 minutes.
you have low blood calcium levels.
you drink or smoke.
you have low blood vitamin D levels.
you have cancer, anaemia, or blood clotting problems.
you have poor dental hygiene or will have dental treatment.
if you have calcium metabolism problems, or nutrient absorption problems (malabsorption syndrome), or you are unable to take calcium or vitamin D supplements
you have asthma.
you are on medication for mental treatment.
you have severe kidney problems.
you are planning a surgery or any procedure.
you are pregnant or trying to conceive or are breastfeeding.
Do not use more than prescribed dose. Taking more medication will not improve your symptoms; rather they may cause poisoning or serious side-effects. If you suspect that you or anyone else who may have overdosed of Osteofos Tablet, please go to the emergency department of the closest hospital or nursing home. Bring a medicine box, container, or label with you to help doctors with necessary information.
Do not give your medicines to other people even if you know that they have the same condition or it seems that they may have similar conditions. This may lead to overdosage.
In case you miss a dose, use it as soon as you notice. If it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your dosing schedule. Do not use extra dose to make up for a missed dose. If you are regularly missing doses, consider setting an alarm or asking a family member to remind you. Please consult your doctor to discuss changes in your dosing schedule or a new schedule to make up for missed doses, if you have missed too many doses recently.

Store medicines at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze medicines unless required by package insert. Keep medicines away from children and pets.
