Esperal 250 mg Tablet is used to treat chronic alcoholism. It discourages the use of alcohol even in small amounts by causing unpleasant effects such as flushing of the face, vomiting, breathing difficulty, sweating, choking, and anxiety. These effects may start 10 minutes after consumption of alcohol and last for about 1 hour. This medicine only discourages drinking alcohol and is not a cure for alcoholism.
Esperal 250mg Tablet blocks the chemical which breaks the converted form of alcohol in the body. This leads to an increased level of converted form of alcohol in the body causing bad physical features while drinking alcohol.
Esperal Tablet is used for Management of chronic alcoholism, De-addiction of alcoholism and other conditions. Esperal Tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Esperal Tablet contains Disulfiram as an active ingredient.
Esperal Tablet works by blocking the oxidation of alcohol at the acetaldehyde stage of alcohol metabolism process.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Esperal 250mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Take Esperal 250 mg Tablet as advised by your doctor. Do not take in larger amounts than advised or share this medicine with others. Ensure that the course of treatment is completed. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor. If you cannot swallow the tablet, crush it and mix it with water or milk for administration.

Pregnancy - This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.
Breast-feeding - This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding or to discontinue the medicine based on your clinical condition.
Alcohol use - Do not consume alcoholic beverages or medicines containing alcohol for at least 12 hours before starting therapy with Esperal 250 mg Tablet and for several weeks after stopping the therapy. Consumption of alcohol during this time period may cause severe side effects.
Drowsiness - This medicine may cause drowsiness or dizziness. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating machinery during treatment with this medicine.
Do not consume alcohol during the treatment and for up to 14 days after discontinuation.
Disulfiram may cause drowsiness or tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you are affected.
Avoid taking disulfiram if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or you are breast feeding.
Before you take disulfiram inform your doctor about all the prescription, non-prescription, and herbal medicines you are or were taking.
Patients who are receiving or have recently received, alcohol, or alcohol-containing preparations, such as cough syrups, tonics and the like, should not take disulfiram, If you drink alcohol during or within 2 weeks of stopping disulfiram a serious and potentially life threatening reaction may occur along with severe symptoms such as flushing of the face and neck, increased body temperature, sweating, urge to vomit (nausea) vomiting, itchy skin or rash caused by an allergic reaction (pruritus, urticaria) anxiety, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, difficulty breathing, palpitations, rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure, abnormally slow breathing, chest pain, abnormal heart rhythm, coma or fits may occur.
Consult your doctor immediately if you suddenly experience any of these symptoms after stopping the treatment with disulfiram.
Esperal 250mg Tablet is used in alcohol dependence.
Store medicines at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze medicines unless required by package insert. Keep medicines away from children and pets.
