Natclovir 250 mg Capsule is an antiviral medicine used for the prevention of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection which may occur after an organ transplantation. It is also used to treat CMV eye infection in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of seizure disorders due to the increased risk of recurrent seizures.
Ganciclovir capsule/injection is used for the treatment of cytomegalovirus infection. It is used in organ transplantation to prevent cytomegalovirus infection. It is also indicated for the patients with Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
Ganciclovir ophthalmic solution/ointment is used for the treatment of eye infections caused due to herpes simplex virus.
Ganciclovir may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by the doctor.
Ganciclovir is an antiviral drug that belongs to a class called synthetic nucleoside analogues. It works by blocking the viral DNA replication a process essential for the virus to grow and multiply. Ganciclovir thus stops the virus from spreading in the body. Ganciclovir belongs to the class of drugs called antivirals. The drug acts by preventing the viral DNA synthesis and inhibiting the growth and replication of the virus.
Ganciclovir is an antiviral drug. It slows the growth and spread of the cytomegalovirus. Ganciclovir is used to treat and prevent infections caused by cytomegalovirus. This infection usually occurs in patients who have suppressed immune systems such as patients with AIDS and organ transplant patients. Avoid using the medicine if you are allergic to Gancicloviror similar drugs.
Avoid consumption of alcohol as it may worsen the side effects of Ganciclovir capsule.
Avoid contact with people having cold and infection as Ganciclovir reduces the body’s ability to fight infections.
Avoid Ganciclovir during pregnancy or breastfeeding because the safe use of the drug is not yet established.
Do not stop using the medication abruptly unless instructed by the doctor. Stopping the medication suddenly may cause the illness to return.
Ganciclovir should be preferably taken with food.
Ganciclovir is not recommended in children.
Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience visual disturbances due to instillation in eyes, or if you experience convulsion, sedation, dizziness, ataxia and/or confusion.
Your blood cell counts should be monitored while on treatment with ganciclovir especially if you have kidney disorders.
Do not take ganciclovir along with imipenem-cilastatin as it may cause seizures (fits).
Ganciclovir is used in the prevention and treatment of life-threatening or sight-threatening cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in adults who are immunocompromised (reduced immunity) and in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
It is also used for the treatment of acute herpetic keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye) such as dendritic and geographic ulcers. Ganciclovir is also used in patients undergoing transplant for the prevention of CMV retinitis.
Store it at controlled room temperature (25°C to 30°C) and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.
