Idrofos 150 mg Tablet is used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis makes the bones weaker and thinner and increases the risk of fractures. This medication may cause a decrease in the blood calcium levels, hence it is not recommended for use in patients with low calcium levels.
Ibandronate Sodium 150 mg tablets is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. This medication works by preventing bone breakdown and increasing bone density (thickness).
The chances of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause, as a woman ages, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods of time. Ibandronate Sodium also known as Ibandronic acid belongs to a class of medications called bisphosphonates. The generic equivalent of Boniva, Idrofos tablets are manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. in the strengths of 150 mg.
Ibandronate Sodium Tablets (Idrofos) are contraindicated in the following cases:
You should not use Idrofos tablets if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, or if you have severe kidney disease, low blood levels of calcium (hypocalcemia), or a problem with your esophagus (the tube that connects your mouth and stomach).
Do not take this medicine if you cannot sit upright or stand for at least one full hour. Idrofos (Ibandronate acid tablets) can cause serious problems in the stomach or esophagus. You will need to stay upright for at least 60 minutes after taking this medication.

Some people using medicines similar to Idrofos tablets have developed bone loss in the jaw, also called osteonecrosis of the jaw. Symptoms of this condition may include jaw pain, swelling, numbness, loose teeth, gum infection, or slow healing after injury or surgery involving the gums.
You may be more likely to develop osteonecrosis of the jaw if you have cancer or have been treated with chemotherapy, radiation, or steroids. Other conditions associated with osteonecrosis of the jaw include blood clotting disorders, anemia (low red blood cells), and dental surgery or pre-existing dental problems.
Do not take any other medicines including vitamins, calcium, or antacids for at least 60 minutes before or after taking Idrofos (Ibandronate acid tablets).
Avoid milk and other dairy products for at least 60 minutes after taking this medicine (except in the case of overdose). Do not lie down for at least 1 hour (60 minutes) after you take a tablet.
If you have an allergy to ibandronate or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. Tablet: If you are not able to stand or sit up for an hour. If you have any of these health problems: A swallowing tube (esophagus) that is not normal, low calcium levels, or trouble swallowing.
The dosage of Ibandronate Sodium tablets (Idrofos) is one 150 mg tablet once monthly on the same day each month
The tablet has to be swallowed whole with 6 to 8 oz of plain water only, at least 60 minutes before the first food, beverage, or medication of day. Avoid lying down for at least 60 minutes after taking Generic (Idrofos tablet).
Do not eat, drink (except for water), or take other medication for at least 60 minutes after taking Ibandronate Sodium tablets. You must take supplemental calcium and vitamin D if dietary intake inadequate.
