Travatan (travoprost) is a prostaglandin analog. It works to reduce pressure in the eye by increasing the amount of fluid that drains from the eye.
Travatan eye drops are used to treat open-angle glaucoma and other causes of high pressure inside the eye (ocular hypertension).
Travatan may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Travoprost belongs to the class of drugs called ophthalmic agents. Travoprost helps in reducing the pressure in the eyes by increasing the drainage of the fluids in the eye. Thus, it helps in reducing intraocular pressure.
The dosage and the drug form depend on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Use Travoprost as prescribed by your doctor.
Instil one or two drops of Travoprost into the conjunctival sac of the eye and close your eyes for at least 10 minutes. Do not allow the container tip to touch the eye or surrounding tissue.
If you miss a dose of Travoprost, please use it immediately once you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not use a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval.
Some products that may interact with this drug are: eyelash treatment (such as topically applied bimatoprost).
Travatan Eye Drop is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
To reduce the amount of Travatan Eye Drop that reaches the breastmilk, place pressure over the corner of the eye for 1 minute or more, then remove the excess solution with an absorbent tissue.
Travatan Eye Drop may cause blurring of your vision for a short time just after its use. Do not drive until your vision is clear.
Travatan Eye Drop is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Travatan Eye Drop is recommended.
Travatan Eye Drop is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment of Travatan Eye Drop is recommended.
Before using travoprost, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to similar drugs (e.g., bimatoprost, latanoprost); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as preservatives like benzalkonium chloride found in some brands), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: eye problems (e.g., macular edema, iritis, uveitis, lens extraction/aphakia).
If you develop an eye infection or injury, or have eye surgery, check with your doctor about the continued use of your current bottle of travoprost. You may be advised to start using a new bottle.
This drug may cause temporary blurred vision. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness or clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.
During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Travoprost is used for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
Travoprost may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by the doctor.
Travoprost is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open-angle type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). Lowering high pressure inside the eye can help prevent blindness. This medication works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye to maintain a normal pressure.
Store Travatan Eye Drops in a cool dry place.
Travatan Eye Drops preserved with polyquaternium-1 should be stored at temperatures below 30°C.
Travatan Eye Drops preserved with benzalkonium chloride* should be stored at temperature below 25°C.
It is not necessary to store Travatan Eye Drops in the refrigerator, but it is acceptable if you prefer to instil cold drops.
Do not freeze. Do not leave Travatan Eye Drops in the car, in the bathroom or in other warm, damp places.
