Description of Vildagliptin

Vildagliptin is an antidiabetic medicine used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat type 2 diabetes in adult patients. Patients are advised to follow a strict diet and exercise regimen along with this medicine for the best possible effect. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.

Uses of Vildagliptin

  • Type II Diabetes Mellitus

This medicine reduces blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus.

General Instructions

Take Vildagliptin exactly as instructed by the doctor. It can be taken with or without food. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts than advised/prescribed. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable side effects. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Dosage

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

Warnings

Pregnancy - This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative based on your clinical condition.

Breast-feeding - This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative based on your clinical condition.

Insulin secretagogues - This medicine should be used with caution in patients who are using insulin secretagogues due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia. Close monitoring of blood sugar levels is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Bullous pemphigoid - This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of bullous pemphigoid, a hypersensitivity reaction of the skin. Any unusual symptoms such as skin blisters or skin rashes should be reported to the doctor on priority. Therapy with the medicine may be discontinued based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Arthralgia - This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of severe arthralgia due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be done under your doctor's supervision.
