This Tablet is a lipid-lowering medication (statin). It works by blocking an enzyme (HMG-CoA-reductase) that is required in the body to make cholesterol. It thus lowers “bad” cholesterol (LDL), triglycerides and raises “good” cholesterol (HDL).

Simvotin 40mg How To Take

The dosage and the drug form depend on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Take simvotin 40mg Tablet as prescribed by your doctor.

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Take the drug with or without food. However, taking the drug with food prevents stomach upset.

If you miss a dose of simvotin 40mg Tablet, please take it immediately once you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Mechanism Action Of Simvotin 40mg

Simvastatin Is A Prodrug Metabolised In The Liver To Form The Active ?-hydroxyacid Derivative. This Inhibits The Conversion Of HMG-CoA To Mevalonic Acid By Blocking HMG-CoA Reductase, An Early And Rate-limiting Step In Cholesterol Biosynthesis. It Reduces Total Cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol And Triglycerides And Increases HDL-cholesterol Levels.

Warning

Increases blood sugar levels – This Tablet may increase the blood glucose levels. Monitoring of blood glucose levels is necessary while you are on this medicine.

Myopathy and Rhabdomyolysis – This Tablet may increase the risk of Myopathy and Rhabdomyolysis which is a muscular disease. The risk of causing Myopathy is higher in the elderly population, and hence it should be used with caution.

Alcohol consumption – This Tablet should be used with caution in patients who consume large quantities of alcohol and/or have a history of the chronic liver disease.

Pediatric use – The safety and efficacy of Simvotin 40mg Tablet have not been established in the children less than 10 years of age.
