Sildenafil Uk

Sildenafil Uk

Generic Viagra

Sildenafil is the medical or generic name for Viagra. Medically they are the same. Sildenafil is sometimes called generic Viagra. Sildenafil was first marketed under the name Viagra in 1998. In June 2013, when the patent of Viagra expired in the UK and other European countries, prices came down significantly. Generic sildenafil is available at much lower cost, from 97p per tablet, while Pfizer branded Viagra costs over £5 per tablet.

How to take sildenafil

The normal starting dose, in men who have not taken sildenafil before, is one 50mg tablet. Subsequent doses can be adjusted up to a maximum of 100mg as a single dose, or down to 25mg, depending on response. Most men find 50mg sufficient. Sildenafil should not be taken more than once in 24 hours. The effects of treatment may not be exactly the same each time. It is best to take the same dose that worked previously, increasing the dose only if on several occasions treatment is not successful.

Side Effects of Sildenafil

With any medication you take, there is always a risk of side effects occuring. Some are more common than others, and often side effects may subside with the regular usage of the medicine. If the side effects do not subside, you should report them to us, or your GP.

How you can take the treatment is dependent on factors like your age, medical history and other prescription medicine you are on. The common recommended dosage for is 50mg consumed anywhere between half hour to four hours prior to sexual intercourse. However, the dosage can be adjusted depending on the individual and how they react to it. You should not take it more than once daily, preferably on an empty stomach since it can slow down the effect if taken with a meal. They should be taken whole with a full glass of water.

  • Runny / stuffed nose
  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea
  • Red and / or warm skin

How To Take

You should take Sildenafil about one hour before you plan to have sex. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

Sildenafil can be taken with or without food. However, you may find that Sildenafil takes longer to start working if you take it with a heavy meal.

Why is the Price of Sildenafil Lower Than Viagra?

As Sildenafil is a generic drug it is produced by several manufacturers, which helps to lower the price. Viagra is produced only by Pfizer who set the price. The two products are medically identical but because of the brand name of Viagra the product sells at a substantial premium.

Where to get sildenafil

You can get sildenafil on the NHS if you have erectile dysfunction or pulmonary hypertension. Branded versions of sildenafil such as Viagra are not available on the NHS, except in special circumstances.

Private prescription

You can also get sildenafil on a private prescription from your GP. This means you'll need to pay the full cost of the medicine. Prices vary, but on average 4 tablets costs around £20.

From a pharmacy

You can buy sildenafil from a pharmacy following a discussion with the pharmacist. To make sure sildenafil is safe for you to take, they'll ask you some questions about your general health. You can also talk to them about side effects. If the pharmacist has any concerns about whether sildenafil is safe for you, they may advise you to see your GP.
