Description

VIAGRA (sildenafil citrate), an oral therapy for erectile dysfunction, is the citrate salt of sildenafil, a selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). Sildenafil is used to treat men who have erectile dysfunction Erectile dysfunction is a condition where the penis does not harden and expand when a man is sexually excited, or when he cannot keep an erection. When a man is sexually stimulated, his body's normal response is to increase blood flow to his penis to produce an erection.

Use

VIAGRA may be taken with or without food.

How should I take sildenafil?

Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

Dosing

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

What happens if I take too much?

As with most medications, it is very important that you take exactly the dose you have been prescribed. Taking too much Viagra increases your risk of side effects. It could cause you to suffer from low blood pressure and faint. It also increases your risk of a condition called priapism, which can cause permanent damage to your penis. If you believe that you have accidentally taken too much Viagra, you should visit your local emergency department immediately

Sildenafil can cause serious side effects

  • an erection that will not go away (priapism). If you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, get medical help right away.
  • If it is not treated right away, priapism can permanently damage your penis
  • sudden vision loss in one or both eyes. Sudden vision loss in one or both eyes can be a sign of a serious eye problem called
  • non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Stop taking VIAGRA and call your healthcare provider right away if you
  • have any sudden vision loss
  • sudden hearing decrease or hearing loss. Some people may also have ringing in their ears (tinnitus) or dizziness. If you have
  • these symptoms, stop taking VIAGRA and contact a doctor right away
