About Mizolastine

Mizolastine is a non-sedating antihistamine, prescribed for symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), hives and other allergic reactions. It blocks the effects of histamine, which helps to relieve these symptoms. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

What are the warnings and precautions for Mizolastine?

 It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver, heart, kidney problems, irregular heart beat, blood disorder, low potassium levels, diabetes, elderly, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Uses

Mizolastine is used for the treatment, control, prevention, & improvement of the following diseases, conditions and symptoms:

  • Seasonal allergic rhinitis
  • Allergic rhino conjunctivitis
  • Urticaria
  • Hives

Medicines not to use with Mizolastine

Hypersensitivity to Mizolastine is a contraindication. In addition, Mizolastine should not be used if you have the following conditions:

  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Heart or liver disease
  • QT prolongation

What are the side effects of Mizolastine?

  • Gastrointestinal: Dry mouth, diarrhea, abdominal pain and nausea.
  • Central Nervous System: Drowsiness, headache, dizziness, anxiety, weakness and depression.
  • Liver: Increased liver enzymes level.
  • Blood: Decrease in white blood cells.
  • Metabolic: Increased appetite associated with weight gain.
  • Allergic reactions: Rash, hives and itching.
  • Heart: Low blood pressure, fast heart rate and palpitations.
  • Musculoskeletal: Muscle/joint pain

Storage of Mizolastine

Store medicines at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze medicines unless required by package insert. Keep medicines away from children and pets.
