Novonorm 2mg Tablet is of anti-diabetic nature. It belongs to the meglitinides class of medicine. The drug is taken orally, along with a medically prescribed diet, exercise and significant change in lifestyle to obtain maximum benefits.
Novonorm Tablet is used for Diabetes and other conditions. Novonorm Tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Novonorm Tablet contains Repaglinide as an active ingredient.
Novonorm Tablet works by keeping the blood sugar levels in control. Abbott Health manufactures Novonorm Tablet.
It is important to abstain from smoking, and alcohol intake during and after the treatment period. Stress must also be controlled as it affects the blood sugar levels greatly. The drug is administered to control the sugar level in the blood, for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.
It stimulates the body to produce more insulin that can help to bring lower and normalise the level of glucose in the body. This way, the medication also lowers the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular diseases.
The drug, however cannot be used for patients having Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also not recommended for patients who are hypersensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients in the medicine. There can be some adverse side effects that arise from the use of the medicine. In case of persisting symptoms and increasing discomfort, it is best to consult a medical expert immediately.
Some of the effects include, blurred vision, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, respiratory infection, sinusitis, rhinitis, constipation, muscular or joint pain and swelling.
Novonorm 2mg Tablet is an anti-diabetic medication. It increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas which prevents blood glucose from rising very high after meals.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Novonorm 2mg Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
Pregnancy - This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.
Breast-feeding - This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. If the medicine is used, close monitoring of the infant for any undesired side effects is recommended.
Bullous pemphigoid - This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of bullous pemphigoid, a hypersensitivity reaction of the skin. Any unusual symptoms such as skin blisters or skin rashes should be reported to the doctor on priority. Therapy with the medicine may be discontinued based on the clinical condition of the patient.
Diabetic ketoacidosis - This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of diabetic ketoacidosis due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.
Type 1 diabetes mellitus - This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Novonorm results in fast and effective control of high blood sugar following meals.
For best results, take Novonorm 15 to 30 minutes before a meal. If you miss a meal, skip your dose to avoid hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level).
You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with Novonorm
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) is a common side-effect; learn how to identify and manage its symptoms (sweating, rapid heartbeat, weakness, blurry vision, headache) and teach your family as well.
