What is in this leaflet

Domperidone is an effective anti-emetic (medicine used to prevent vomiting and nausea). It increases the intestinal movements and facilitates emptying of the bowel.

This leaflet answers some common questions about Motilium tablets. It does not contain all the available information. It does not take the place of talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

Uses of Domperidone

  • Nausea and vomiting

Domperidone is used to treat or prevent nausea and vomiting which may be caused due to chemotherapy or digestive system disorder.

  • Gastric motility disorders

Domperidone is also used in the treatment of gastric motility disorders which may include delayed or hastened emptying of stomach.

How to take domperidone

Take domperidone about 15 to 30 minutes before meals.

If you take domperidone after a meal, it will still work, but it may take longer to have an effect.

If you forget to take your dose, take it as soon as you remember that day.

But, if it is nearly time for your next dose, just take the next dose at the right time. Do not take double the dose.

Possible Side Effects

  • cause milk to leak from the breast
  • disrupt menstrual flow
  • cause breast growth in men
  • mild stomach cramps
  • diarrhoea
  • headache
  • drowsiness
  • nervousness or restlessness
  • raised liver function tests (this is detected in a blood test)
  • sudden cardiac death


 Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: history of breast cancer, allergies. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages.

This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Domperidone passes into breast milk. Due to the potential risks to a nursing infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended.

Consult your doctor before breast-feeding (see also Uses section).

How To Store Domperidone 10mg Tablets

Do not use your Domperidone 10mg Tablets after the expiry date printed on the package. If you have any tablets that are out of date, please return them to your pharmacist for disposal.

Keep Out Of The Reach And Sight Of Children. Store the tablets in the original package.


Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, twitching, muscle rigidity, and irregular heartbeat.

Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
