Best Food For Erectile Dysfunction

best food for erectile dysfunction

Healthy diet

“A healthy diet and an avoidance of highly processed unhealthy food will go a long way towards relieving symptoms of erectile dysfunction,” said Dr Zakariyya Patel of Pelonomi Hospital Complex in Bloemfontein.

Although certain foods may assist with ED, cases are not well documented and evidence is only anecdotal – based on individual accounts, said Dr Patel. These foods can be labelled as aphrodisiacs, and although some people may swear by their effects, there is no medical evidence that any one specific food can cure ED.

“The reason for this is that ED is a complex condition that may have complicated aetiology (causes). So, certain foods may increase sexual desire to a certain extent but it does not mean that it will change the ED if the underlying cause is not addressed,” added Dr Patel.

Foods That Reduce Your Risk of Erectile Dysfunction

  • Berries

The most natural way to consume your sweets—and burn off excess fat—is by consuming berries. Even better: The vitamins found in red berries can increase sperm count. Add them to plain, non-fat Greek yogurt for a protein- and nutrient-rich breakfast or snack.

  • Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits, especially grapefruits, are relatively high in fiber and are known to promote weight loss. They’re in season now (winter); pick them up next time you’re at the farmer’s market.

  • Red wine

Sure, it’s good for your cholesterol, but did you know red wine can benefit your manhood? Red wine contains nitric oxide, which helps relax the arteries and increase blood flow in the genitals, and the compound quercetin, which helps block the enzyme that triggers your body to push away testosterone, allowing you to maintain high levels of testosterone—and a strong erection well past foreplay.

  • Green tea

Another beverage that packs a bevy of health benefits is green tea. It contains catechins, which help boost metabolism and kill off free radicals that damage blood vessels, letting your blood flow more freely to your organs—including the one down below.

  • Dark chocolate

Don’t feel too guilty when you indulge in dark chocolate; it has amazing health benefits, including the ability to skyrocket your dopamine levels—aka the “pleasure hormone” in your brain, which is responsible for getting you in the mood.

Best diet for erectile dysfunction:

One of the studies that examined the effects of a healthy lifestyle on erectile dysfunction was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2004. Researchers evaluated two groups of obese men who had erectile dysfunction: those who participated in a regimen of a healthy diet and exercise and others who were told to continue their normal behaviors (control group). Over two years, the researchers found that one-third of the men who altered their diet and exercise habits saw improvement in erectile function when compared with men in the control group. The men in the diet and exercise group also saw improvements in body mass index, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and weight.
