Description

Beclomethasone is a corticosteroid that is used to relieve symptoms associated with asthma and allergic rhinitis. The topical form of this medicine is used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. This medicine is not recommended for use as the primary treatment for asthma. It is also not recommended for use in patients below 5 years of age.

Dosage

Missed Dose

Aquanase/Nasal spray/Rotacap/Topical forms: Use/apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

Warnings

Warnings for special population

  • Pregnancy - This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using this medicine.
  • Breast-feeding - This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using this medicine.

General warnings

  • Nasal trauma - This medicine is not recommended for use in patients who have experienced recent nasal trauma, nasal septal ulcers, nasal surgery, etc. until completed healing has occurred since this medicine may delay healing and worsen the patient's condition.
  • Growth retardation - This medicine may cause growth retardation in some children. Therefore, children receiving this medicine should be monitored closely with regard to growth parameters. The dose should be titrated to the minimum effective dose to reduce the chances of such side effects. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary in some cases based on the clinical condition.
  • Psychiatric disturbances - This medicine may worsen certain psychiatric conditions such as depression, euphoria, personality changes, insomnia, mood swings, etc. in some patients. Close monitoring of such patients for any change in behavior or mood is recommended during treatment with this medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.
  • Visual disturbance - This medicine may cause blurred vision or other visual disturbances in some patients. Report any such symptoms to the doctor immediately. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.
  • Driving or operating machinery - This medicine may cause blurred vision or dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Before taking this medicine

You should not use beclomethasone if you are allergic to it.

To make sure beclomethasone inhalation is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • any type of bacterial, fungal, or viral infection;
  • active tuberculosis infection that is not being treated;
  • herpes infection of the eyes;
  • osteoporosis, or low bone mineral density;
  • a weak immune system; or
  • cataracts, glaucoma, or increased pressure inside your eyes.

It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Beclomethasone inhalation can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using this medicine.
